More than 691,000 businesses were created in 2018, an increase of 100,000 compared with 2017.

This significant improvement was seen across all sectors in France nationwide. Microenterprises accounted for 45% of the total number of enterprise creations, sole proprietorships 26%, and companies 29%.

Four sectors accounted for more than half of all startups: specialized, scientific and technical activities (17.6%), trade (15.5%), transportation and storage (10.2%), and construction (9.7%).

The number of new businesses increased by 19% in Ile de France, Normandy, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. What’s more, 38% of entrepreneurs were under 30, and 40% were women.
