The World's 50 Best Restaurants has just crowned Frenchman Cédric Grolet the world’s best pastry chef.

The award was presented to the pâtissier last month in Bilbao, Spain, and is the latest in a long list of prizes won by the young prodigy in recent years. In 2015, he was named best pastry chef of the year by Le Chef magazine, and in 2016 he received the Relais Desserts award for best pastry chef and the same accolade at the Food and Drink Awards. Meanwhile, in 2017 he was crowned world’s best pastry chef by Les Grandes Tables du Monde and 2018 pastry chef by Gault & Millau.

He is currently pastry chef at Le Meurice, a five-star luxury hotel in Paris, where he has made a name for himself with his fruit-filled optical ilusion cakes. He manages a team of thirty people and runs pastry masterclasses around the world.
