The Louvre, the world’s most visited museum, welcomed 10.2 million visitors in 2018 according to the US-based Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), a record for a museum of its kind. This 25% increase on 2017 was partly thanks to the return of international tourists to Paris following a slump in recent years due to the 2015 terrorist attacks.

The Louvre has overtaken the National Museum of China, in Beijing, and the National Air and Space Museum of the Smithsonian Institution, in Washington D.C., with both having welcomed eight million visitors last year.
